Critical Analysis

This is a textual analysis of the end products. I have only selected a few print screens that show what I have learnt throughout this project and used in creating the end product.

Trailer Feedback

Question 1: Does the trailer give you a sense of the story?

Overall the feedback given suggests that the narrative was portrayed clearly. This could be due to the voice over, which we intended to use to portray the narrative.

Question 2: Would it be the kind of film that you would pay money to go and watch?

Most of the people we asked said they would pay to watch this film. A few individuals even suggested that they would because it is the kind of film they like to watch. This suggests that we targeted our demographic correctly.

Question 3: Is there anything different you thought didn’t make sense?

A few individuals were confused about the girls, as the hair colour and features are similar, sometime they couldn’t tell which character was which. Another thing was that the character who is teacher, looked very creepy, however he didn’t sound creepy.

Question 4: Can you reference this trailer to other films within the slasher genre?

The majority of the participants suggested that it looks very similar and conventionally with horror films they tend to watch. A few participants even referenced the Halloween film. This suggests that by keeping to the codes and conventions of the slasher genre, that the target demographic is able to recognise and relate to the trailer making them more likely to watch the film.

The marketing campaign is important, because advertising on different platforms about the films, makes sure that the intended demographic have seen or heard that there is a film that is going to be released. Also by having the film well advertised creates a buzz around the film, making the cinema experience more of a social experience as most of the intended demographic have hear or seen an advert of this film.

Our marketing campaign consists of a trailer, magazine cover and a poster. Our marketing isn’t big, however using the internet to upload the trailer onto, and using social networking sites either have the poster or a link to the trailer assures that the campaign expands.
